PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ THIS...
Why Donations?
This is the part where I beg and plead for your
sympathy... While Indy Leagues Graveyard is a fun hobby, there are
expenses involved. Thankfully, the web space itself
has been generously donated by Jon Winter and his site
hosting company, Winter Systems. (Thanks again, Jon!) Please
consider Winter Systems for your website hosting needs. But
there are other expenses as well. To compile league and team histories and
information for the team pages, I have to purchase or make copies
from several sources, among them back issues of Baseball America;
Baseball America Almanacs and Directories; league media guides;
team programs and scorecards; pocket schedules; online newspaper articles and other advertising
materials. The online newspaper articles can cost $2.95 or more
to download per article. When you're talking about an entire
season or several seasons -- well, you can image the final price
tag. Articles from local papers are great sources of information for
writing team and league histories, but I can't afford to download
them all without a little help.
Profit is NOT my goal for this website. It was conceived, designed,
and built for the purpose of providing hard-to-find information about
defunct independent leagues and teams for baseball historians and fans. But research
does cost money and your
donation would help me expand the
knowledge presented on this site. Any donation - no matter how small - would be very appreciated.
Other Types of Donations
Financial donations are just one way you can support Indy Leagues
Graveyard.
Donations of research materials would also be a great way to
help. Game programs, pocket schedules, or any marketing materials
distributed by defunct independent league teams are just a few
examples. One reader sent me a box in the mail filled with Rebel
Baseball Reviews and a short-lived indy publication called The
Dugout! I'm still combing through all of them!
Do you have a stack of old Baseball America's gathering
dust in your garage? I could definitely use them! I'm missing issues
for many years from 1993 to the present (except 1997) and I would be
thrilled to take any issues off your hands.
What I Can Do for You
I have an large library of books on baseball history as well as
back issues of The Sporting News, Baseball Weekly, Rebel
Baseball Review, and a few scattered issues of Baseball
America. I also have Baseball America Almanacs
(1989-2005), Baseball America Directories (1994-1999), as
well as statistical histories such as The Southern Association in
Baseball, 1885-1961 and the Georgia Class D Minor League
Baseball Encyclopedia.
I would be willing to do baseball research for people interested
in a particular player, team, or league in exchange for a reasonable
donation to the site.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Kevin McCann
